Is your dad, or a dad you know always there for you when (and even when you don’t) need them?!
Mine is and Father’s Day is the perfect day to show him more than usual how special he is to me. I’m not going to opt for the easy options this year, by that I mean socks and ties. Instead I’m going to surprise him with some thoughtful bits and pieces, which I’d like to share with you all.
My dad is nearly 50 and in his older age, he doesn’t eat as healthily as he should and he doesn’t do anywhere near enough exercise as he should, consider the fact that he holds a desk job…
Dad’s Breakfast
So, first on the agenda is breakfast. You’d normally associate “breakfast in bed” with young kids and Mother’s Day, but this year it is all about Father’s Day (however it doesn’t have to be in bed!) A fantastic recipe for a Father’s Day Breakfast is Strawberry Pancakes.
Strawberry Pancakes Recipe
Makes 12-14
1.5 cups of plain flour
2 tablespoons castor sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
0.5 teaspoons salt
1 large egg
1 cup skimmed milk
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and milk in a mixing bowl. Crack the egg into a separate bowl and beat. Add the beaten egg slowly into the large mixing bowl with the rest of the ingredients and stir for a couple of minutes until all the ingredients form a smooth mix.
Use a ladle to pour similar sized amounts onto a non-stick pan, move mixture around the pan until it forms 6-7cm diameter circle, wait until side is browned and flip over using a wooden spatula.
For the strawberry mixture slice 2 cups of strawberries adding the tablespoon of brown sugar. Place both ingredients into a pan and heat lightly for 3-4 minutes. Place strawberries over the pancakes and serve. A good bottle of personalised champagne would complement this breakfast of strawberries and pancakes very nicely indeed!
Dad’s First Present
Father’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a couple of gifts. Think outside the box. It is always nice to have gifts which you and dad can share together, making the present even more special. How about an experience day out, for example paint balling? You could get a few family members or friends together, fight it out and make some great memories.
Dad’s Second Present
Get a present he can keep and show off, perhaps something personalised? A bottle of personalised whisky is an idea; add your own special personalised message onto a label and present it on a bottle of whisky, if your dad is a whisky drinker, we think he’ll like this. If you feel like going a bit further get a personalised wooden gift box customised with your own message too to present the bottle of whisky in.
Dad’s Lunch
Generally, men like their food and we hope your dad does too. Hopefully he’ll still be pretty full after your Father’s Day breakfast, so make it a late lunch/early dinner. It’s always nice to go out for a meal with family, and Father’s Day is just another good excuse. Something to Get Dad into Shape after Father’s Day
You’ve spoilt him rotten on Father’s Day, so it might be a good idea to think of ways he can keep himself busy for the rest of the year. Father’s Day doesn’t have to be about expensive gifts or superficial gestures, it can be a day to spend quality time with your dad and show him just how much you care about him.
